This delicious pineapple turmeric smoothie is an excellent post-work out recovery drink. Pineapple contains a compound called bromelain which is responsible for reducing inflammation associated with arthritis and other joint disorders, and swelling of soft-tissue injuries. It’s great to include in your post work-out routine, especially for runners.
Turmeric is one of the world’s healthiest foods & a highly potent anti-inflammatory due to the curcumin agent (also responsible for the bright yellow/orange pigment). Ginger contains very potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols. This is the perfect combination to help your body recover after strenuous activity.
I know it sounds a bit weird at first, but it’s actually quite tasty.
1 cup pineapple (frozen)
1/2 banana (frozen)
1 scoop protein powder (I used Sunwarrior)
1-inch piece of ginger root (peeled)
1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup coconut water
Dash of sea salt
Toss all ingredients into a blender, and mix on high speed until smooth.
If you need additional sweeteners, you can add a little bit of maple syrup or agave to the mix, but that is optional.
